Test questions and question bank
Text entry question (incl. numerical)
You use a text entry question when the correct answer to your question is both short and unambiguous.
-
Step 1
- Log in to admin view.
- Add a new question and select Text entry question.
-
Tip! Give the question a name that makes sense in the Code field. You could use the subject of your question, for instance. This will make it easier to find your question again later using Remindo’s search function. Besides, questions without a unique name cannot be distinguished from each other in the Learning Analytics (test analysis in Student view).
You can also add properties to the question to help identify it later. In Veterinary Medicine, the questions were tagged based on species and/or organ system.
-
Step 2
- Enter your question under This is the standard text.
- Click the pencil icon next to the text entry box to enter the correct answer.
-
Step 3
- Under Answer #, enter the correct answer and the number of points it is worth.
- Use the Add answer button to add multiple (correct) answers so that different spellings will be accepted as correct.
- Tip: If the correct answer is that nothing should be filled in, then leave the answer field blank.
- Use Expected number of characters to determine the size of the text entry boxes.
- An alphanumeric answer is assumed. Check the box marked Treat answer as numeric value if the answer is strictly numerical.
- If you check the box for Case sensitive, the student will have to use capital letters correctly in the answer.
- Use wildcards to selectively ignore parts of the candidates’ answers. Check the Use wildcard to use them. Acceptable wildcards are:
- Underscore: Use _ to ignore a single character in the answer.
- Number sign: Use # to ignore a (single digit of a) number in the answer.
- Asterisk: Use * to ignore a string of characters in the answer.
-
Please note! If you checked Treat answer as a numeric value, the student will see a message telling them to input a number and to use commas rather than decimal points. If the student does use a decimal point, Remindo will change the answer into a whole number.
-
Step 4
- It is possible to use multiple text entry boxes in a single question, which is useful for fill-in-the-blank questions with more than one blank.
- At the top of the text edit box, click the + Add interaction button to insert a new text entry box. Repeat steps 2 and 3.
-
Step 5
- Enter your feedback.
- Click Save when your question is finished.
